Who knew Ryan from “The Office” would one day write, direct and star in a film that is smartly written and really funny at the same time. It has lots to say about modern society which I really liked, and while it could have taken a sharper approach to its deeper themes, it’s still a sly, smart mystery. I really liked it, and it really proves Novak is a gifted writer. The film is intelligent and interesting without being pretentious or a chore to watch — it’s fun and has great moments of dark comedy. His direction is also pretty great for a feature debut, and of course he is wonderful as the star. The film feels real, almost like this is a personal experience Novak is recounting for the audience! The movie really is a study of characters and how people act in today’s world— and my god does it ever feel accurate! This movie is B.J. Novak making his mark, and I can’t wait to see what he does next!
