The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (and other Roald Dahl shorts by Wes Anderson) (2023)

Streaming Now on Netflix
Rating: 8.0
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is such a perfect reintroduction for Wes Anderson lovers. A short film that knows how to tell an entire story within its time frame… and proves Anderson has truly mastered his craft. It’s articulately crafted and visually inspiring, whilst also being an incredibly charming piece of work from Wes Anderson based on Roald Dahl’s anthology series. Anderson continues to prove his filmmaking sensibilities perfectly match Dahl’s stories! Benedict Cumberbatch suits Anderson’s signature style and storytelling wonderfully. It’s one of the most entertaining and charming Wes Anderson projects to date, even if it is just a filmed reading of the story.

The Swan, The Rat Catcher and especially Poison (my favourite in the collection) are all so excellently whimsical and charming, and so uniquely Wes Anderson. Some of his most masterful work! Easy, quick watches!
Premise: Chronicles a variety of stories, but the main one follows Henry Sugar, who is able to see through objects and predict the future with the help of a book he stole.
