It’s pretty bad. Like maybe it’s good by streaming movie standards… but wow no wonder Universal dumped this one over to Netflix. On paper it looks like it should be good but it just doesn’t work. Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds both just play their usual selves, and they don’t have chemistry at all. Their dialogue and quips aren’t even funny. It just all feels so forced. Gal Gadot is okay but she’s not in the movie as much as you’d think she would be, and when she is she just plays such a stereotypical villain. It just feels cheap, like not much effort was put into it. Does Ryan Reynolds just rotate between good and bad movies? Because this one very much seems on par with Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which was terrible. I’m more forgiving because this is just a streaming movie but wow it’s bad for even that. The movie feels so generic and cookie-cutter-esque, just your average action-comedy starring the two most well known action-comedy actors. It’s not the worst thing ever, and it might be fun to some but it just left me pretty annoyed. I also really don’t understand what it was trying to be, the first half felt like it was a spy sort of movie, but then it went to more of an Indiana Jones kind of thing (with Reynolds literally wearing a Jones-like costume). And wow the twists come out of nowhere… it’s almost laughable. The end also was really dumb… there isn’t really a resolution the movie just sorta ends. The movie is all over the place and just so messy, it’s a fun ride but not at all good. The perfect streaming movie. If you’ve seen Hobbs and Shaw… that’s the perfect reference for what this movie is.
