Fair Play (2023)

Rating: 8.7
Fair Play is a hugely ferocious, truly outstanding debut from Chloe Domont. The tense atmosphere, power plays and gender dynamics of this secret workplace relationship had me captivated from beginning to end. Reminiscent of the 90s, Fair Play sharply examines the duality of female empowerment and fragile male ego. With fiery sound design uniquely paired with each character journey, Chloe Domont captures the toxic game of corporate culture through the frame of gender expectations. The writing and directing is truly unforgettable - you rarely see this level of tonal precision in a debut. This is the kind of film that *used* to make movie stars - both Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich are incredible, working off of some excellent material to deliver intense, career-best performances! So slickly made, filled with ever-building tension, with one of the smartest and sharpest scripts of the year. What an excellent film - highly recommend!
