Dog (2022)

Rating: 7.3

This movie is simply a nice, lighthearted time at the movies! It’s a pure delight. I don’t see how one could come out of this not liking it; it’s literally Channing Tatum and a cute dog in a movie together! It’s one of those that isn’t anything revolutionary, and it’s not perfect, but it is still quite enjoyable. I did know exactly what was going to happen and it was pretty generic and enjoyable for a dog movie, but I needed it! It’s got that charming and delightful qualities that make it worth it despite its generic-ness. The one aspect that made it stand out are the PTSD elements, from the human side to even the dog side. I loved seeing Tatum’s character and the dog bonding over these shared struggles, and it had some emotional moments to it!

Channing Tatum is so good here, it’s great to see him back in a leading role; he has this quality that makes him so likeable, especially when he’s right beside a dog! This was also his debut directorial role, and I thought they did a fine job. The soundtrack was also a major highlight! The storytelling is somewhat repetitive and the story does seem to get distracted at times, but it’s just a simple, fun delightful story that worked!

It really put a smile on my face, it’s not a hugely deep movie but has a few good messages and while I knew exactly where it was going, I enjoyed the simplicity and the delightful feel this movie had! Doesn’t everyone just love a good dog movie?
