As someone who hates their own generation… I loved the satirical aspect of this film! It’s a fascinating satirical look at Gen Z culture that makes for an entertaining movie! Unfortunately, this movie’s greatest strength is also its greatest weakness. Gen Z characters do not make for compelling protagonists. When the movie delves into their personal melodramas it just seems so pathetic on face value. People die in this movie, and yet the characters are more concerned about their relationships and self interests. Hell, they have a Hurricane party. That should tell you all you need to know about these privileged, obnoxious and unlikeable characters. It’s great from a satirical point of view, but if you aren’t into that satire side of things, this movie will definitely seem like a chore to get through. It really shows how pathetic of a generation we Gen Z-ers can be. It’s never mean spirited, just has fun with the idea. For me, the satire worked and I found it so clever how it was weaved throughout the story… young people really do lose their minds without their phones these days. It really did feel genuine to the type of people commonly seen from this generation, both from a writing and performance perspective. I loved Pete Davidson and Lee Pace in this, I just wish they had more screen time! Maria Bakalova also continues to surprise, and I’m so glad she’s getting more work after “Borat 2”! The mystery itself was interesting and had a cool twist at the end, I loved how it all played out! It’s basically a very real game of Werewolf! I didn’t think the filmmaking behind it was anything revolutionary, it was pretty standard, and not as special of a film as most A24 films are. Still, I was glad I saw it despite it being a bit of a mixed bag for me. I didn’t love it as much as some, but also didn’t think it was anywhere near bad… I very much enjoyed it for its satire and obnoxious characters! It is a very original film and very crazy, so I have to give it that! It’s not a slasher, but a darkly funny satirical whodunnit with some blood and gore that makes fun of an entire generation while also inviting that generation to come watch! If that sounds interesting to you, I highly recommend it!

Fun Fact: The name of the movie and the game played in the movie are based on a commonly played Improv Game called Body Body (or Murder In The Dark) where players run around in a dark room while the murderer "kills" players by tapping them, hoping to get away with killing the entire group.
